FAQ

What is counselling and how can it help?

The Cotswold counsellors are an open ended counselling service providing mental health support. Our qualified counsellors offer talking therapy during times you may feel overwhelmed, stuck or challenged. We provide counselling both face to face and online to fit around your preferred needs.

Who are The Cotswold Counsellors for?

We aim to be inclusive for everyone and work with a variety of mental health needs and/or life circumstances. We are unable to help with acute psychiatric or suicidal crises; if a client is suicidal, they will be encouraged to contact the emergency services. They may also contact www.samaritans.org or telephone them on 116 123 (UK). We are also unable to diagnose, if this is something you are after we will encourage you to speak to your GP. When submitting your referral form we encourage you to share what you are likely to talk about. This helps us to select the most appropriate counsellor for your needs. If we are unable to work with your presenting issue we will signpost you to relevant support.

What happens in a counselling session?

The first session with your counsellor is an opportunity for you to begin to get to know each other. Your counsellor will ask you questions to know what you want from counselling, what brought you there and background information. They will also go through a contract to go through expectations and boundaries in counselling. After your first session, you may decide to focus on a particular problem with your counsellor to explore and process. Your counsellor will offer a warm, non-judgemental space for you to talk about ANYTHING. We are trained to ask the right questions and bring in creative tools where appropriate.

Will the sessions be confidential?

The relationship between yourself and your counsellor is key and trust is an essential part of this. What you talk about in sessions is confidential, however, there are a few exceptions to this. Your counsellor will talk you through these exceptions in your initial session. If your counsellor feels that you are at serious and imminent risk of harm to yourself or others ,and there is a need to break confidentiality, we will also try to include you in the process.

Where do the sessions take place?

We offer face to face sessions in the heart of the Cotswolds. We are situated on the High Street in Chipping Campden, where our rooms offer a calm space, where you can not be overheard. Alternatively, online sessions can be set up remotely where our counsellors will work confidentially from our office.

How does online counselling work?

The Cotswold Counsellors understand that there can be a variety of reasons why online counselling may be more appropriate for yourself. We offer sessions via video from our own confidential office space. It is also important you are in a space where you feel safe and able to share.

How much does it cost?

Our sessions are £55 a session (50 minutes). We offer an initial free 20 minute phone or video call to discuss what you are looking for, your expectations and whether it is something we could offer. Payment is required in advance to secure your session.

How often will we meet and for how long?

The Cotswold Counsellors provide open ended counselling. This means that there is no set number of sessions. When you choose to end counselling is up to you. We encourage conversations about ending with your counsellor for you to decide collaboratively. We initially offer weekly sessions, and recommend 6 sessions which we feel allows us to balance a steady, emotionally safe pace and co-create a positive therapeutic experience.

How do I book?

You can fill in the online form to provide us with information about yourself and your reason for seeking counselling. This information helps us to best match you with a counsellor based on your presenting issue and availability. Alternatively you can email talktous@cotswoldcounsellors.com or by phoning 00123 456789 and we will get back to you as soon as possible. We ask that you leave a message with your name and contact details and the best times to reach you.

Can I choose my counsellor?

When you complete the online form we will use this information to best match you with a counsellor taking into account your presenting issues. There is also the opportunity on the form to denote a preferred counsellor, should you have one. After an initial discussion or first session if you feel this counsellor isn’t right for you and would prefer to try another counsellor it’s no problem at all. Remember the sessions need to be the right fit for you.

What happens if I need to cancel a session?

Understandably there may be times that you need to change or cancel a session. We ask for 48 hours notice to cancel or change an appointment as after this time we are unlikely to fill the session. If you cancel within 48 hours or more notice, we can either offer to reschedule your session or refund you. If you do not show up for a session or cancel within the 48 hour window you will still be charged for this.
